Dear Friend,
Over the past several years, every visit to the orphanages in Egypt left us depressed, heartbroken and angered; depressed and heartbroken at the situation these poor children are finding themselves in, and angered at the way they are forced to live. As if being parentless was not enough, these poor young children live in homes broken both structurally and emotionally. On every level, from the most basic understanding of humanity to the deepest fibers of our souls, it became impossible for us to accept this as the way things are and we refused to turn our backs on the situation. These thoughts finally led to the formation of “The Littlest Lamb” - an organization who’s foremost function is to build an orphanage that will serve not only as a home providing for children in need, but as a model to other orphanages in Cairo. We are happy to say that the Littlest Lamb obtained its 501(c)(3) tax exempt status from the IRS in September, 2007.
We have purchased a 9 acre parcel of land in an area called "Ahmed Oraby", just 20 minutes outside of Cairo. After several visits to this area and extensive discussions with experts from His Holiness Pope Shenouda III to architects and urban planners, we find it perfect for our vision. With a close proximity to good schools and good hospitals, the land is vast and will allow us the freedom to build a large orphanage, with the potential for expansion. We firmly believe that in order for these children to achieve their maximum potential, they should not have to grow up in an impoverished area and attend poor schools that would leave them with little to no opportunity as they reach adulthood. It is time to break the cycle of poverty for these children.
We will provide orphaned children with a beautiful home in a nice area on a large enough property so they can spend time outdoors and play like children are meant to play. It will be professionally run and be the kind of environment that would foster and encourage love, education, and respect for themselves and others. It will bring out the best they have to offer and will turn them into the kind of adults that give back to their community and make the world around them a better place, ready to provide for others.
As wonderful a concept as this is, the Littlest Lamb Orphanage won't build itself. In order for this dream to come true, we earnestly need your help for the first phase of this project. Any contribution you can put towards this great cause would be truly appreciated. Checks should be made payable to “The Littlest Lamb”. And remember, no donation is too small.
We know how busy you must be and thank you for your time. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
The Founders of The Littlest Lamb
