“Tonight, you are all here because you opened your hearts for the kids” said Pelé at the Littlest Lamb’s 2nd annual Gala. The night, at the scenic Battery Gardens in Manhattan, was truly magical. The Littlest Lamb, not yet 3 years old, played host to a fundraising gala with legendary soccer star and humanitarian, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pelé. He was being honored for the essential role he has played over the years both as an athlete and a philanthropist, and particularly for his dedication to issues of poverty, children and youth. Pelé was presented with an award for the countless charitable contributions he has made to society, and responded with a heartfelt speech, expressing his gratitude for being welcomed at the benefit, and excitement to be part of the Littlest Lamb team. He told us that only God knows why things happen, and God is the reason Pelé and the Littlest Lamb are now working together. Also in attendance was Ambassador Hossain Mubarak, the Egyptian Consul General to New York, who made a passionate speech in support of the Littlest Lamb. The evening was a huge success to say the least, raising over $225,000 to build the orphanage. Beyond the funds raised was the welcomed opportunity we had to connect with our donors and supporters and not only update them on our progress, but also to enjoy an evening of fine dining and entertainment. As Pelé told us, “We are going to score a goal when we inaugurate the orphanage in Egypt!”
